A Possible Shift in Power

Dear Friend,

Is the militarily powerful and strategically positioned nation of Turkey pivoting away from Europe and toward Russia? It would seem so based on news this week. If this is so, the shift carries enormous implication for Israel and the entire Middle East in the light of Bible prophecy.

This week’s sudden warming of Turkish-Russian relations surprised many observers. The two nations have been on opposite sides of the bloody civil war raging in Syria on Turkey’s southern border.

Vladimir Putin’s Russia, is actively backing the current Syrian government led by President Bashar Al-Assad. Meanwhile Turkey has been aiding and supplying certain groups of rebels attempting to overthrow the Al-Assad government.

Last November, relations between the two nations were further strained to the breaking point when a Turkish F-16 shot down a Russian warplane near the Syria-Turkey border.

Thus eyebrows were raised this week when Turkish President Recep Erdoğan flew to St. Petersburg Russia this week to meet at Mr. Putin’s invitation. In his remarks at the meeting, Putin told Erdoğan, “Your visit today . . . shows we all want to restart our dialog and restore our relations.”

As professor Efraim Inbar, director of Bar-Ilan University’s Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies told The Jerusalem Post:
“Erdoğan’s rapprochement with Moscow reflects the growing Russian influence in Middle East affairs at the expense of a retreating U.S.”
A Russian-Turkish alliance would represent a huge shift in power and influence in this volatile part of the world. One with enormous prophetic implications. Key passages in Ezekiel suggest that a coalition of nations that include Russian and Turkish regions will invade Israel in the Last Days.

Here at Jewish Voice, we will continue to closely monitor this remarkable situation and bring you analysis in the light of biblical prophecy.
