Reading Books Might Help You Live Longer, According to New Research
Today we received what just might be the best news ever: Reading books may actually help you live longer, the New York Times reports.
Turns out, readers live an average of almost two years longer than those who don't read at all, according to a new study published in the journal Social Science & Medicine. Using data on 3,635 people over age 50 who were participating, researchers found that those who read for up to three and a half hours per week were 17% less likely to die over 12 years of follow-up than those who didn't read at all. Those who read more than three and a half hours per week were 23% less likely to die.
